Tsjechovproject 2012 - 440 x 463 cm
2012, May a Tsjechov-project started in Zuidwending, a little village near Veendam in the Netherlands. Multiple activities were planned around the theme 'Geluk', which means 'Happiness'. The program of three months ended in July with plays based on three stories of Tsjechov. The theater was performed in three large wooden cubes of 6 x 6 x 6 meters each; the cubes were situated on the domain of a farm.
Three textile artists made three huge decorationquilts. Rita Berghuis was one of them.
The decorationquilt is based on a story of Tsjechov: 'After the performance'. A girl comes home after a performance. She has two lovers and doubts about whom she loves most: the officer or the student? She writes a letter, tears it apart and bursts into tears. Desperate she looks up to the icon, seeking for help.
Ritas decor will be shown in a school in Stadskanaal: Noorderpoort, which is building project and will be finished in the summer 2014.
